Spend some time on social media or in the company of Democrats, and you will inevitably hear their endorsement of the open border with the statement: “Immigrants do jobs that Americans do not want.”
This has to be one of those mass-psychosis talking points. But considering that the Democrats were the ones who launched a Civil War to retain racial slavery—it makes sense. They miss the old institution. Democrats used to defend Black African slavery, because these people would do the work that white plantation owners would not.
But something about racial slavery lives deep in Democrat DNA. (I would like to point out here that the Republican Party was started in order to abolish racial slavery.) This statement— “they do work that Americans do no want” has become a Democrat talking point. And if you think about it, it tells you a lot about what Democrats are up to.
First, notice the stark “us/them” mentality of that statement. “They” are the immigrants, the brown and mixed race people who flood into this country over our open border. While the term “illegal” has been removed from the liberal lexicon as being declassé, the discussion still shows a stark red line. “They” are over there, “we” are over here, and we don’t mix. In fact, “they” better work for “us,” if they know what’s good for them.
Successful immigration has always been a helpful part of the U.S. economy and the very concept of immigration is part of the U.S. “brand.” The problem for Democrats is that the helpful immigration is the legal kind, the sort that is done decently and in order. Sane immigration occurs when we exert control over who enters the country and we offer those selected individuals the benefits as well as responsibilities of permanent residency and possibly later on citizenship.
If we handled immigration with a policy, multiple points of entry, a simplified but careful process of vetting, and gave deserving potential immigrants a full and fair legal status, they could partake of the American dream. They wouldn’t be “them,” they’d be “us.” We’d all share in our status. Immigrants could get the best jobs they could qualify for—isn’t that the best thing for the country? Don’t we want a country where people work at their peak abilities?
Notice, too, the Democrat xenophobia in saying that citizens of this country are “Americans” and the immigrants coming over the border, say from Mexico or El Salvador or even Venezuela, are somehow not Americans. Here’s a geography lesson for low-information liberals. This entire hemisphere is the Americas. Everybody who lives in the Western hemisphere is an American. Mexicans are Americans. So are Brazilians, so are Haitians, so are Cubans, and so on. The Western hemisphere is composed of North, South, and Central America as well as the Caribbean nations and we are all Americans.
Co-opting the term “American” to apply only to U.S. citizens is a form of elitist snobbery. It’s the idea that U.S. citizens can commandeer the term that was meant for the whole hemisphere, but those brown unfortunates from other areas of the Western hemisphere do not deserve to use the same term. That just drips racism, elitism, xenophobia, and a misunderstanding of the whole immigration concept. For example, Mexicans who cross the border don’t want to be Americans. They already are Americans. They want to be U.S. residents or even citizens.
But the truly appalling part of that statement (“They do the jobs that Americans do not want!”) is that the only net benefit immigrants offer to the United States are that they will work slave-like jobs for low pay under poor conditions. This is the same patriarchal attitude that plantation owners had. They imported Black people from Africa to do the hard work that white plantation owners didn’t want to do. And as long as those Blacks worked hard, kept their mouths shut, and acted grateful to be allowed to serve white masters, the white overlord elitists (a class that never died out among Democrats) would smile kindly at them and declare, why, they were just like part of the family.
That’s how Democrats treat illegal immigrants. They love them, create sanctuary cities for them, and then call out the militia when a few of them show up in Cape Cod. Democrats love immigrants as long as immigrants know their place, and that place is doing dirty and disgusting jobs that the overlords and their entitled children do not want to do—and, by the way, those immigrants better live far away from where Democrats reside!
Democrats are rolling out the red carpet to illegal aliens to come live on the Democrat plantation. Illegals are welcome as long as they take crummy jobs, work under terrible conditions, and keep their mouths shut. Then they’re welcome here.
That’s slavery. It’s a different form of slavery but it still involves subjugating nonwhite people to do grueling miserable work in service of Democrat elitists. The plantation is gone, the mindset isn’t.
One new wrinkle in Democrat Slavery 2.0 is that these illegals are going to be required to vote, if need be. In the original slavery, slaves were not allowed to have opinions, least of all political opinions. In Democrat Slavery 2.0, immigrants are to vote as they’re told. The Democrat concept of “identity politics” is predicated on this notion—people are to vote as their identity requires and that identity is mainly defined by skin tone and sexual activity.
Immigrants deserve better than what Democrats are giving them, much better.
The United States must have a functional immigration policy. Forget the numbers for a moment—let’s just say we want X number of immigrants to enter this country in a year. We should then build ports of entry and a streamlined system that allows us to consider applicants and allow entry. This also means that we can deny entry. We pick the best people. And once a person enters the United States as a resident alien or naturalized citizen, that person has full rights.
Like many citizens of this country, immigration is in my family tree. My grandfather and his parents were immigrants. But he was not relegated to trash work—he could work anywhere that anyone would hire him. And his skills got him some interesting jobs. Nobody expected that he would have to work in the sewers or a slaughterhouse because of where he was born. He was an immigrant (a legal one, too, since the system at that time made legal immigration an attainable goal) but he had full status. I want other immigrants to get all of the benefits of residency in this country—not just the right to do crummy jobs for next-to-nothing pay; I do not want immigrants to be forced to live in slums and be afraid of “La Migra” police ready to haul them away.
If you grant immigrants legal status, you give them dignity. Dignity is the key component missing in the current system. Democrat overlords do not like people with brown skin who speak with an accent to have legal status, much less dignity.
Democrats have solved the problem of illegal immigration in their own way—by banning the term “illegal.” It’s hard to do research on immigration and immigrants’ contribution to the U.S. economy because Democrat-run media tends to lump all immigrants together. Legal, illegal, it’s all the same to them.
But it’s not the same, not at all. Democrats would know that if they actually knew any illegal immigrants.
Our current system, perpetuated by Democrats, avoids using the word “illegal,” but the fraudulent immigration system we have is built on the premise that these newcomers are “not quite” really immigrants. It’s like the old rule that Blacks who worked the plantations were only 3/5 citizens. We want our illegals to live in a legal gray zone, a place where they have to be terrified of the elitists who could deport them at any time. They have to forego many privileges. And they can never do anything but the worst type of work.
True story. A young woman, born in Guatemala, was brought to Texas by her parents before she entered kindergarten. It was a whole family of illegal immigrants. The girl grew up in the United States with few memories of Guatemala, speaks perfect English, and turned out to be quite academically gifted. Her family struggled to survive in the illegal zone, but she managed to nab a full-ride scholarship to a university for a four-year degree. But here’s the problem. Her status remains illegal. She can’t claim the prize because she’s part of the slave class. If she exposes her status, her parents are fearful they’ll be sent back.
What is wrong with our country? This young woman may turn out to be a great teacher or doctor or scientist or psychologist … but we would rather she clean out the fryers at the local fast food restaurant and know her place. Her place is that of a slave. She’s part of the slave class, and she better abandon any dreams of prosperity.
It is just like the way that Democrats made it illegal to teach a slave to read. Nothing was scarier to an antebellum Democrat than an educated slave. And nothing is scarier to their Democrat descendants today than an educated immigrant, particularly one with brown skin.
There are millions of illegals in this country. Many of them live their whole lives in the shadows. They’re fearful of the very Democrats who pat themselves on the back like they are their patrons and protectors. These illegal immigrants know that at any time and without warning they can be rounded up and maybe even deported. They also know that some dangerous illegals can commit crimes with impunity—these are their neighbors. Psychotic and criminal illegals are running around this country but they do not live in the neighborhoods where white Democrat elitists live.
I would say that our immigration system is broken, but it isn’t broken at all. It’s Democrat organized and it’s run in the way the Democrats want it to be run. They want a slave class. A group of desperate brown people relegated to the worst jobs for the worst pay and in always in jeopardy of running afoul of authorities. These are the sort of people who will obey Democrats, not like uppity white Trump supporters.
A real immigration system would allow real immigrants to come here and build real lives. Not lives built on fear, low pay, and horrible jobs. A life of opportunity, a life of dignity.
Our current immigration system is Slavery 2.0 and it’s an invention of the Democrats.
By the way, do we need immigrants? Absolutely! That’s why we need a fair immigration system to efficiently process people and bestow on appropriate immigrants the dignity of legal status and the right to work even good jobs. Of course, this means creating a system that will let some in and block others. That’s how we always used to do it. But the Democrats have had to do without slavery for over 150 years, and they miss it… They miss it badly. If they didn’t miss slavery, why do they insist on letting potential immigrants serve them by doing garbage jobs in a system that does not even grant them full legal status?
Here’s a poll…
Another great point of view
