Here’s a day brightener. The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists and their famous Doomsday Clock shows we are now 90 seconds to midnight. Midnight represents total earthly destruction. This is the closest the Doomsday Clock has ever been to midnight.
The Chicago Atomic Scientists organization (the guys behind the Doomsday Clock) was founded by such little-known men as Albert Einstein and Robert Oppenheimer in 1945. To illustrate their warnings about our evolving technological capacity for self-destruction, they created the Doomsday Clock in 1947, setting midnight as the moment when the earth destroys itself.
Today, the time of the Doomsday Clock is set by the Science and Security Board of this organization. The Board likes to point out that it has nine people on it who have a Nobel prize, so they want us to be impressed. For a little perspective, remember that Barack Obama has a Nobel Prize, too, and Greta Thunberg has been nominated more than once.
Although the Doomsday Clock is most associated with nuclear apocalypse, it really is meant to alarm us about all dangers, including war, bio-terrorism, so-called “disruptive technologies,” and even climate change, although that doesn’t even scare Greta anymore.
The Doomsday Clock was recently pushed up to 90 seconds before midnight. It’s never been closer to midnight. It was advanced due to global warfare, climate change, and inept current American leadership. (I added that last part.)
Artificial intelligence (AI) was recently added to the list of apocalyptic threats, although it’s cloaked in the euphemism of “disruptive technologies.” What you may never have thought of is that AI is not just a goofy chat-bot that hallucinates information, it is already used in military, surveillance, reconnaissance, and war games. Dan Bongino has pointed out that the very powerful class in this world fears AI, but not because it might spread disinformation. It fears AI because it may end up telling people the truth. And just as the truth will set you free, Democrat lies will keep you enslaved.
The Doomsday people also have infographics about nuclear threats. Do you know that some “nuclear material” (bomb stuff) gets lost or goes missing? It’s on their cheerfully named “Doomsday Dashboard.”
Bio-terrorism is a major threat for the Doomsday crew, and Russia has recently accused the United States of building weapons-type biolab facilities in Ukraine. Victoria Nuland accidentally admitted this is true when testifying before Congress. Unfortunately for us, she dropped this major bombshell at a Senate investigation broadcast by C-SPAN, so only 12 people saw it, and half of them were probably drunk and just couldn’t manage to change the channel.
Bio-terrorism is not just a Western game. China is big into germ warfare (remember our friends at the Wuhan Lab?) and Russia is likely playing, too. (Some day we can talk about why bio-terrorism is not nearly as big a threat as inept leadership, because bio-terrorism is an inefficient way to make war whereas installing dumb American leaders is probably the best way to incite and perpetuate war.)
When the Doomsday Clock started way back in 1947, it was set to 7 minutes to midnight. In the classic game of one step forward, two steps back, the brainiacs have moved time back 8 times but ahead 17 times. In 1991, the clock was set at a comfortable 17 minutes to midnight—we’ve never been safer.
George H.W. Bush (the papa, the one with intelligence ties) was President
Silence of the Lambs won Best Picture
Pablo Escobar surrendered to Colombian police
Kamala Harris was Deputy District Attorney in California
Joe Biden was trying to destroy the career of Clarence Thomas in what the now-Justice called a “high-tech lynching”
Bill Gates barely knew Warren Buffet
The internet was just an incomprehensible patent application
Mark Zuckerberg was in second grade
Good times. Since 1991, danger has increased at every turn.
And in January 2023—under Resident Biden—it was moved to its most dangerous setting in history, 90 minutes to midnight.
Note that when Trump was President it was set at 2 minutes and 30 seconds to midnight
Under Trump’s administration, it was moved to 2 minutes to midnight
As soon as Biden entered the White House, it was moved to 1 minutes, 40 seconds
And it’s been ratcheting closer to midnight every since
That’s right, we were 30 seconds to midnight safer under Trump. Bear in mind, the people who are setting these times are likely hardcore Democrats who pee blue. But even they can’t deny Biden/Harris has made the world much less safe.
When the Doomsday Clock Keepers were asked why the clock was moved forward so far so fast once Biden/Harris came to power, the reason given was the threat of escalation to nuclear war. Later on, when Russia invaded Ukraine (and Houthis clogged up the Red Sea, the Middle East exploded, and China has its eyes on Taiwan—not to mention the debacle in Afghanistan, Iranian efforts to create a nuclear bomb, and revolutions in Haiti and Niger), the Doomsday Clock was pushed to the most dangerous setting ever achieved.
Hey, don’t say Biden/Harris hasn’t achieved some records!
Critics of the creepy clock say that mixing a bunch of random threats together heightens panic, but does not really illuminate what’s going on. The original Doomsday Clock was mainly focused on nuclear war, which still remains the dominant threat. And there are some threats that the clock does not consider at all, like global pandemics, depopulation campaigns, a Juraissac Park type scneario, a zombie apocalypse, or a meteor crashing to earth.
Vox magazine wrote that the problem with the clock is “Doomsday creep.” (Hey, I think I found a new nickname for Bill Gates!) But what exactly does 90 seconds to midnight really mean?
First of all, there is an actual Doomsday Clock and it’s housed at the University of Chicago. Maybe some delegates from the Democrat National Convention (starting on Monday, August 19, in Chicago) can visit it while they’re fighting off Hamas rioters and installing the next Democrat puppet.
Of course, this Doomsday Clock is a secular clock. The Bible also contains references to the end of the world which will begin with a multi-year period of disasters known as the tribulation, to be followed by a new heaven and a new earth. The Bible sees global destruction from the lens of redemption. The atomic scientists see only disaster and destruction.
Speaking of destruction, do we really know how nuclear war will play out? Professor Cheryl Harrison of the Louisiana State University Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences said that nuclear warfare would cool the planet. So perhaps it will offset alleged climate change? She says nuclear apocalypse would cause the oceans to chill, make the planet colder, cause sea ice to block ports, and this big chill would disrupt agriculture and lead to famines. Of course, this may not matter to you if you didn’t survive the blast.
In the 1950s, America feared a nuclear attack and told school children the best protection was to hide under their desks. In fact, drills were held regularly in public schools to make sure kids knew how to crawl under their desks and hold their heads to weather nuclear assault. Adults who were not in school were told to stay indoors and not go outside, sort of the same advice we got during COVID. So even though our government wants us to fear nuclear holocaust, they are not really prepared to get serious about it.
The effect of a nuclear bomb varies depending on where you are in relation to ground zero. If you’re in the blast radius, the gamma rays and other ionizing radiation from the blast are going to affect you. This radiation is momentary—maybe a second—but it can be lethal. So if a nuclear bomb goes off right next to you, you’re dead in under a second, even if you’re hiding under a school desk.
People more distant from the explosion may survive the blast a while longer, but the radiation sets the stage for cancer even for people distant from ground zero.
Nuclear bombs also generate a lot of heat which will cause fires (at a distance) and just plain melt things that are close to the blast. Here is an interesting factoid: if a 300-kilo ton nuclear bomb goes off, the so-called “thermal flash” generates a hot wind that can give first-degree burns to a person who is standing 8 miles from the blast center.
Then the bomb also generates a series of shock waves, a sort of meteorological effect that allows the bomb’s energy to create a super-fast wind that can destroy anything in its path. When I say fast, I mean faster than the speed of sound. It eventually slows, but it takes out anything and everything left in its path. One of these shockwaves can knock over a skyscraper.
This all happens in the first 10 seconds. The mushroom cloud does not happen until things start to cool down a little. The cloud is created by radioactive fallout which then is blown over the area, as the wind takes it. The dust from this cloud can contain radioactive doses that are fatal; but even distant exposure can cause cancer later on. Radioactive fallout blows around like dust in the wind.
The Doomsday Clock must remind us that the Harris/Biden regime is inept. No matter what you think of Vladimir Putin in Russia, he has more nuclear warheads than the United States.* Harris/Biden have no diplomatic policies; they are utterly incapable of making even semi-coherent scripted statements to the press. They are in no way sentient (Biden) or smart (Harris) enough to speak to a sharp villain like Putin.
Regardless of what you think about Putin, he is a very intelligent man, and as Trump recently said about Putin, “he’s at the top of his game.” Intelligence and morality are not necessarily linked. Harris/Biden got us into fighting a proxy war against Russia without an exit strategy or diplomatic game plan. Harris/Biden aligned us with Zelenskyy, a diminutive man with offshore accounts and an eagerness to launder money. That’s not just stupid, it’s dangerous. Reckless.
American weakness is on full display and it emboldens our adversaries. We handed over Bagram Air Force Base, billions in weapons, and control of Afghanistan to the Taliban in exchange for … nothing. The list goes on and on.
Iran is toying with the idea of a nuclear attack on Israel but I think the big deterrent there is they know there would be swift and unequivocal retaliation. But if somebody were to say—I don’t know—fly a Chinese spy balloon over our military installations, would Harris/Biden take action? If 11 foreign nations expelled American diplomats, would Harris/Biden have a response? If a terrorist organization killed 1,200 citizens of one of our allied nations in the Middle East, would we help our ally or blame the ally for fighting back against a terrorist organization?
I know the weaknesses of the Harris/Biden regime because I can watch them in real time. The best deterrrent to mutually assured destruction is deterrence. And the only way we achieve deterrence is with strength, diplomacy, off-ramps, negotiations, and back-channel communications among intelligent people.
If Harris gets elected, we can be sure the Doomsday Clock will move forward.
Excellent article. Love the snark!
