Picture this. You’re in a Joint Session of Congress at the Capitol on January 6, 2005. They are certifying the election of 2004 which pitted John Kerry (Democrat) against George W. Bush (Republican). The great state of Ohio had just officially brought its slate of Electors for President. In case you don’t remember the Kerry v. Bush election, it was a nail-biter. In the state of Ohio—a crucial win for either side—Bush won by a mere 118,601 votes. Had Ohio gone Blue, Kerry would have won the White House (and perhaps would no longer have the perpetually long face). But Bush got the Electors, and, with it, he won the election. Bennie Thompson (D, Mississippi) objected to the election based on the fact that the House Judiciary Committee had found numerous and “serious election irregularities.” And Thompson wasn’t alone, either, Thirty-one Democrats objected to certifying Ohio that day, including Barbara Boxer (D, California). But by the time all these issues were raised, Kerry had already conceced the election to Bush.
The irony of Bennie Thompson is that he was named Chairman of the Select Committee that was looking into the January 6, 2021 (J6) events that transpired at the very same Capitol in a very similar Joint Session of Congress. You remember the Select Committee (Kangaroo Court). Bennie opened the session by insisting in a speech, “We are going to be guided solely by the facts.” Yet the J6 Kangaroo Court:
Suborned perjury (Cassidy Hutchinson)
Destroyed evidence
Doctored videos
Withheld videos
Denied due process to the defendants
Bennie Thompson was so not guided by the facts that he is on record claiming, “Seven people lost their lives on January 6.” No, that’s quite untrue. (A good rule of thumb for Bennie Thompson is this: if he said it, it isn’t true.) Four people died that day and two unarmed MAGA women were killed. Bennie Thompson has also said, “More than 140 police officers suffered injuries.” Again, a lie. Bennie concluded by stating the J6 event was a “violent mob” who wanted “trial by combat.”
Here’s a pop quiz. Of all the J6 “mob” arrested on J6, how many were armed? Answer: zero. That’s a pretty sorry excuse for a violent mob who wanted “trial by combat.” I’ve heard of bringing a knife to a gun fight, but this is bringing nothing to an insurrection.
Bennie Thompson, notorious and proven liar, then concluded his official remarks by stating emphatically that Trump was a liar. Is it any wonder that MAGA people think Democrats are lunatics?
Bennie Thompson also likes to claim he is the second Black representative from Mississippi. Like most self-praise of Democrats, it’s just not true. It’s just another riff of stolen valor. In 1870, the first Blacks served in official legislative positions in Mississippi.
Right after the Civil War, 20 Black men served in the House of Republicans and two in the Senate. They were all Republicans. Every last one was a Republican. How many Democrats were there in this group? Zero, same number as armed assailants in the Captiol on J6
It took till 1934 for a Black Democrat to enter Congress. This was a guy named Arthur W. Mitchell who started out as a Republican, but changed to Democrat
John R. Lynch was the first Black man to be a speaker of any state house in the country. He was in the Mississippi state legislature, 6th district, elected in 1873 and serving to 1883. He was Republican. When Lynch stepped down in 1873, he was succeeded by another African-American: Isaac D. Shadd (1874-1875)
In the 1870s, Hiram Rhodes Revels and Blanche Kelso Bruce served in the United States Senate, representing Mississippi
Alexander Kelso Davis was Lt. Governor of Mississippi in 1874-1875
Five Black men served as Mississippi Secretary of State in the years 1869 to 1878: James Lynch, Hiram Revels, Hannibal Carter, Murdock McLeod, and James Hill
James H. Piles was the Black Assistant Secretary of State in Mississippi in 1875
Those are just a few of the names…there are dozens more.
The NAACP, on behalf of Bennie Thompson, filed a lawsuit against Trump, Rudy Giuliani, the Proud Boys, and the Oath Keepers for the events of J6. The lawsuit states that these defendants violated the 1879 Ku Klux Klan (KKK) Act by trying to interfere with an Electoral College count. It’s ironic that the party of the KKK (Democrats) wants to use laws created to stop their support of the KKK against Republicans.
Naturally, Bennie Thompson wants compensatory and punitive damages, that is, a big fat bucket of cash. When Trump’s second impeachment failed, Bennie “Where’s My Payoff?” Thompson withdrew his participation in the lawsuit. He did it allegedly so that he could sit on the J6 Committee.
Thompson originally said of the lawsuit, “Donald Trump has to go away. If he doesn’t, we will put him out of business.” This doesn’t really sound like he wanted a fair trial, does it? And what does it mean, to “put him out of business”? Sounds threatening to me, you know, like a July 13 type of event. Was Thompson behind the increasingly suspicious events of July 13?
Coming back to J6 of 2021, Bennie Thompson was in Gallery C of the House Chamber during the events which he laughably describes as a terrifying revolution. (It was so terrifying they had to shoot one unarmed woman and trample to death another.) Bennie Thompson said he heard some noise and saw security guards use furniture to block the door. He claims he heard a gunshot and later learned it was the one that was Michael Byrd shooting unarmed veteran Ashley Babbit
According to his own dubious testimony, Bennie Thompson said they were ushered out of one room and led to a room with about 200 or 300 others. They were told to lie on the floor and put on gas masks. According to the dubious testimony of Bennie Thompson, he stated he “feared for his life” during this time.
In other words, Bennie Thompson was a victim of the allegedly unspeakable horror of J6. How can an alleged “victim” be made the judge? That’s like making E. Jean Carroll the judge and jury at her circus trial alleging that Donald Trump committed department store rape? (I shouldn’t give Democrats any ideas!)
Yet Bennie Thompson was crowned king of the Kangaroo Court. When Bennie Thompson was appointed by Nancy Pelosi to lead the travesty, then Representative Kevin McCarthy wanted to release security video footage of the day of the event. Bennie Thompson panicked and objected. The last thing a Kangaroo Court needs is evidence!
Fortunately, Tucker Carlson was granted access to 40,000 hours of the tape. We still haven’t seen them all, but that’s another story for another day. But we saw more that Bennie Thompson ever wanted us to see!
When Bennie Thompson was challenged on his panic attack at the very thought that video of the event might go public, Thompson said his objections were because these tapes “could compromise the security of the U.S. Capitol.” After all, if he had video footage we might be able to figure out where the cameras are. (Here’s a clue—they’re everywhere.) Thompson said that since he worked in the Capitol, he had a right to security and that meant never revealing any video footage. I say that if he’s afraid video tapes would compromise his security, he should have been disqualified as being the head Kangaroo.
The J6 sham committee has come and gone, but Bennie Thompson is still stinking up Congress. Right now, he is the chairman of the Homeland Security Committee. He is the only Democrat serving from Mississippi. It grieves me that the good people of Mississippi keep electing this guy.
In addition to being a liar and an enemy of the state, Bennie Thompson is a disagreeable man. In 2014, Bennie Thompson called Justice Clarence Thomas an “Uncle Tom.” That’s a racist slur and it was used because Bennie Thompson did not agree with Thomas. Apparently, if Bennie Thompson does not agree with you, that gives Bennie Thompson a free pass to act like a stupid racist.
When confronted on the slur, Bennie Thompson argued that he is allowed to cast racist slurs on Black people because he is Black himself. That seems stupid. So white oeioke can’t call anyone Uncle Tom, but he can? What kind of racist mumbo-jumbo is that? Either the term is an insult or it’s not.
The issue that Thompson and Thomas were tussling over was the Affordable Care Act, a subject that has always engendered controversy. Not all people like Obamacare, some people think Obamacare is the greatest thing ever. But Bennie Thompson did not advance a legitimate policy argument. No, he just went full racist. And he did not stop with just slamming Justice Thomas; he said that anyone who opposed President Obama was a racist.
Think how moronic it is that we as Americans must march in lockstep behind any man who is Black—well, unless Bennie Thompson doesn’t like him, then we have to find a Black guy to hurl racist invectives at him. But no policy argument against Obama can ever be made. He’s bullet proof because he’s Black?
That’s interesting. If a Black person is in office, they can do or say anything and if you utter a peep, you are condemned as a racist. So if a Black person came into office and demanded all white people pay 90% income tax, anyone who said a word against that would be a racist? What if a Black person said all Black people would get $1M a year free money from the government? Would non-Blacks have to sit quietly and do as they’re told? Sounds fascisty to me.
Bennie Thompson also said that anyone who spoke against Obama for any reason was “showing disrespect” and that people who objected to the political things Obama did or was doing were motivated solely by racial animus. It’s interesting to me that a man as slow-minded as Bennie Thompson can sus out the deepest inner motivations of other people.
This is America and it’s our God-given right to object to Obamacare if we want to. Obamacare was a disaster for many people and some of them are Black, some are white, some are Hispanic, some are… well, let’s just say that Obamacare did not discriminate in providing high-dollar substandard care.
As a Representative, Bennie Thomson has to run very two years and in 2022, he won a term against Republican Brian Flowers. He beat Flowers by about 22,000 votes which was considered a slim but adequate margin for that particular race. This year, Republican Ron Eller won the Republican nomination and will face Bennie Thompson on November 5. Ron Eller is a military veteran (and actual one) and a physician assistant. Eller’s platform is to close the Southern border by building a wall and expanding domestic energy production.
Thompson’s platform is to stop Trump by whatever means necessary.
Mississippi, please boot Thompson to the curb!
Bennie Thompson is a terrible Representative; it’s no wonder Nancy Pelosi wanted him to chair the J6 Kangaroo Court. You couldn’t get a more despicable soul in that job, not even Liz Cheney could measure up. One blessing in disguise is Bennie’s willingness to skip work. From 1993 to 2024, his attendance record, which the Capitol measures in attendance at roll call votes, was double the median.
But is Bennie Thompson all bad? To be fair, let’s say some good things about Bennie Thompson. For better or worse, Bennie Thompson is the longest-serving Black official from Mississippi. He had started in 1969 to 1972 as a civil rights activist and then became mayor of the city of Bolton (his hometown). As mayor, he made important city improvements: paving roads, rebuilding water and sewer systems, and cleaning up neighborhoods that were falling into disrepair. Thompson is a proud member of the Democrat Party and advocates for unlimited abortion, but he is quick to remind us he is a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Bolton. He is too thick-headed to see a contradiction. He claims to be an outdoorsman who enjoys gardening, reading, and the Blues. In his spare time, he enjoys crushing democracy and trying to put the duly nominated Republican presidential candidate “out of business” apparently using any means necessary.
Wow! Great article. But unfortunately, if you think Mississippi democRATS and its black community are going to clean house based on these facts, dream on. The democRAT plantation is just as strong in their minds today as it ever was in the old south. And Thompson won reelection in 2022 by 60.1% to 39.9% margin. The only way we're going to get people like Thompson out of DC is by putting them in jail for some of the many crimes they committed the last 8 years. And that's exactly what Trump should do when he gets elected (assuming the UNIPARTY doesn't cheat and steal the election). Go after them. I like that Trump just issued a warning that if he wins, anyone caught committing election fraud is going to be punished to the full extent of the law and spend years in jail. Did you see that?
